Welcome back to The Code of Style and this article on 10 Reasons to practice Yoga.

Yoga is incredibly popular. People all over the world tried home yoga practices for the first time during the lockdown, as gyms were closed, and people were in need of a way to relieve tension. Now that fitness centers are reopening, and we’re starting to get back out into the world a little more, many are leaving their yoga mats behind.

This might be a mistake. There are many benefits to yoga, whether you practice it as your primary exercise or to supplement other workouts. Here’s a look at 10 of the reasons why you should continue to practice yoga.

10 reasons to Practice Yoga

You’ll Use New Muscles

There are muscles that we use all of the time, the ones that we use to walk and lift things. Then, there are the muscles that we use in our regular workouts. But, there are plenty of muscles that we never use. Yoga is a full-body workout that hits all of those little muscles that usually don’t get any attention.

It’s Easy

You don’t need complicated equipment or clothing to practice yoga. You can get yoga mats easily, and then if you wanted to, you could practice in your PJs.

Yoga Can Improve Your Cardio Performance

Yoga can be challenging. Some of the more strenuous poses will push your heart rate up. But, using extra muscles will also mean that you have more power. You’ll run faster because your legs are stronger.

It Can Help You to Build Good Posture

Most of us spend time sitting over computers or leaning over our phones. Our postures suffer because of it. Yoga can be a way to strengthen your core and your back, helping you to build a strong and straight posture, and even correcting the damage that has already been done.

To Relieve Tension

We all carry tension in our bodies. Yoga poses, and the relaxation that comes with slow movements and focus, can help you remove tension from your muscles.

You’ll Join a Community

Even when you watch videos online, you join the yoga community. Even if you never speak to other yogi’s, you’ll know they are out there, doing the same as you are.

It’s Good for Your Balance

By strengthening your core, and your posture, yoga can help you to build good balance. This can mean that you are steadier on your feet.

Yoga is Pandemic Proof

Right now, perhaps the best thing about yoga is that you will always be able to do it. You can practice yoga through illness and injury, and even if a deadly pandemic forces your gym to close, you’ll still have your mat.

Increased Concentration

Yoga isn’t fast or heavy. The transitions between movements are as important as the poses themselves, and you’ll spend a lot of time being still. This can improve focus and concentration.

Build a Mind and Body Connection

Yoga can make you more aware of yourself. It can give you a stronger link between your mind and body and everything that goes on between the two. You’ll learn about how they affect each other, and how different parts of your body respond to your thoughts and feelings.
