Welcome back to The Code of Style, and this feature about Why you should eat better

If you are in the process of trying to get better at all things nutrition, the first place that you should start is with your own diet. Trying to eat the right things isn’t always easy when you have always had a diet that contains less than nutritious things.

There isn’t a problem with eating food that is calorie filled – the poison is in the size of the portion, and the nutrient content of the food. Taking the time to figure out what portion control means for you is important as this will help you to work out what calories you need, and it is also important to ensure that 80% of your calories come from healthy food, although it is fine to have an occasional treat!

Whether you are looking to find a healthy version of chicken divan or you are trying to perfect your favorite takeout food, you deserve to enjoy the good stuff while you’re getting healthier.

You want to ensure that your body is healthy, so that your mind and spirit are healthy too. Research has shown that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and spirit. Maintaining a balanced diet will prove to be hugely beneficial to both your physical and mental health, and it will also be a good idea to incorporate some exercise into your routine, which will not only increase your self-esteem and overall mood but also improve your mental alertness.

So, let’s have a look at all of the reasons that you should start looking at eating better so that your body will benefit.

Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments.

Why you should eat better

Decreasing or eliminating processed food is good for the environment

Did you know that when manufacturers process foods they use a lot of energy and emit a lot of greenhouse gases? This is fatal to the environment, and the packaging you rip open to get your favorite foods out is also not great for it!

You want to make sure that you are buying whole foods that are sustainably grown so that you can eat better not just for you, but for the world in which you’re living, too.

You will reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes

Why you should eat better

You’ll regulate your blood sugar. High sugar consumption results in blood sugar fluctuations, which in the short term causes headaches, irritability, anxiety, mood swings, and even increased depression, and in the longer term it can lead to type 2 diabetes.

When you choose to eat better, you’re choosing to be more conscious of your health. You’ll avoid being a part of the crowd developing diabetes in adulthood. It’s a good reason to start eating better and your body will thank you over time, too.

Your skin will be radiant

Your skin will glow. The more fruit and veggies you eat, the better your skin will be. Fruit and veggies are both packed with water, and this is how you keep your skin looking hydrated (along with a great skincare routine). The right foods are packed with antioxidants that make your skin look wonderful.

Why you should eat better

We just talked about the right foods having more antioxidants, but they’re also packed full of nutrients, too. You want whole foods that are intact and are full of vitamins and minerals : foods such as leafy vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts are all excellent options as they are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and macronutrients.

Your heart will thank you!

Why you should eat better

Your heart relies on you to eat foods with essential nutrients to have a positive contribution to your health, and your health needs to be boosted as much as possible. You’ll still be able to eat delicious food while decreasing your risks of inflammation and that makes your heart a healthier, happier place! You need to eat well to live longer, and you depend on your heart for that!

To conclude, there are many reasons why you should eat better, but remember to start small, it just isn’t realistic to try and revamp your entire lifestyle in a week!

Remember that you are looking for long term sustainable success, so start by making one or two small changes that you can commit to this week in your eating habits, such as the quick tips in this post, then once you have successfully integrated these changes into your lifestyle, try and add one or two more.

Remember that Health is wealth, so start eating healthy food and looking after yourself today and you’ll find that you will not only change your body but also your life!
