Welcome back to The Code of Style and this article about How to Stay Young Forever.

In our fast-paced, modern world, with its myriad of potential stress factors, more and more people are becoming curious about prolonging their life, youth, and vitality.  More and more often, we are seeing celebrities shining in their fifties, and beyond, who are able to look and feel far younger than their age.  At the same time, we also see individuals aging very rapidly.

Our genes have something to do with how well we age, of course.  Yet with today’s advances in scientific understanding, we are learning that even our very genes can be recoded – with the power of our mind.  After studying this topic in depth for many years, we learned that aging is like any other disease within the body-mind connection, which can be easily taken under control, slowed, and even reversed.  Of course, a bit of work and dedication is required.  Like achieving the perfect shape, it doesn’t just happen.

Why aging occurs

Why does aging occur?  Let’s start with the most visible part, which is our skin.  Starting approximately after the age of twenty, the dermis layer starts producing 1-2% less collagen each year, and this process only accelerates after age 30.  Additionally, the skin’s natural exfoliation process decreases by 28%, leaving the skin with a dull appearance and a rough texture.  These factors negatively affect skin tightness and elasticity, as the transfer of moisture from the dermis to the epidermis slows and fat cells begin to shrink.

In our bodies, as we age, cell damage is occurring.  As this happens, it negatively affects the function of our organs, which results in fatigue, reduced energy and concentration, and eventually, disease.  However, one thing we also know, is that we all age differently.

For example, the Hunza people are known to live very long, healthy lives, while people in big cities are suffering from all kinds of illnesses, sometimes even from a young age.  The average life expectancy of the Hunza people is between 100 and 120 years, with their eldest recently dying at the age of 141!  And, believe it or not, he was also a smoker!

What is the real reason why the Hunza elderly population is so full of energy and vitality, and free of disease?  The secrets to their longevity are, fortunately, not a secret.  They live long and healthy lives due to the fresh Himalayan air, natural diet, active lifestyle, and their attitude towards life itself.

The question naturally arises, what if we simply copy their lifestyle – can we prolong our lifespan as well?

Of course, for those living in big, crowded cities, it is not as easy to breathe air as fresh as the air the Hunza people are surrounded by, or to find our moments of calm in the middle of all the hustle and stress, though we do still have the option to get out into nature on a regular basis.  Sadly, however, many people consider themselves “too busy” to make time for things like walks, meditation, or self-care.  Perhaps, it is time to reconsider our priorities!

How to stay young forever

There is almost always a solution for everything in life.  If we know that our lungs are exposed to toxins while living in a big city, for example, why not create a regular habit of cleansing them?  There are various herbs which can be used to support and cleanse our lungs, such as: turmeric, rooibos, burdock root, stinging nettle, marshmallow root, hyssop, brahmi, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and fennel.

Additionally, we would recommend a full-body Ayurvedic detox blend, which consists of organic coriander seeds, organic fennel seeds, and organic cumin seeds.  Also, taking regular sea salt baths and steam with Himalayan salt in it cleanses your lungs and detoxifies your entire body.

The diet of Hunza people is organic, locally grown, largely raw, and mostly vegetarian, though they do indulge in some meat occasionally (roughly once a month).  The key is they consume zero (yes, zero!) refined sugars or carbohydrates, and do not have access to processed foods or fast food.  They also consume far fewer calories per day on average than we do here in the West.

Even though plant-based diets are generally considered healthier, for the most part, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the right choice for you.  Far more important, is that you eat organic as much as possible, and if you’re going to include meat, that it is grass-fed, pasture-raised, and hormone-free.  Still, most people would benefit from eating meat far less often than they do.

It is important to remember that our bodies also have different needs according to our blood type and lifestyles.  That is why some people who become vegan actually experience low energy and a weakened immune system, while others heal themselves from dreadful, chronic diseases by following the exact same diet.  This has led to much confusion, disagreement, and conflicting information.

This is why learning to listen to your body is extremely essential.  It will always guide you in the right direction.  And, no, this does not mean giving in to those late night sugar cravings!  Those are largely caused by either stress or sleep deprivation, and not intuition or physical need.

To learn to listen to your body, simply start paying attention to which products make you feel good, and which do not.  Notice how much energy you have after eating certain foods.  Notice how you feel after consuming it.  Notice the quality of your skin, hair, and nails on certain diets.  This may also change over time, keep in mind, depending upon your age, lifestyle demands, even the season or the weather.  This is why it is often said that the best diet is a varied one.

Additionally, we live in a world today in which our soil is depleted of essential vitamins and minerals.  That is why diet on its own may not provide all of the necessary nutrition for youth and longevity.  This is why it is essential to also include supplements.  But, just like your diet, this does not mean that you take the same pills every day for the rest of your life.  They are called supplements for a reason, and should be taken according to your changing needs, together with (and not instead of) healthy food choices.

There are so many different supplements available on the market today, and covering them all would fill entire books.  Here, we would like to recommend the ones most important to slow and reverse aging.

When we experience a chronic disease later in life, the root causes can almost always be traced to free radicals and inflammation.  This is why incorporating a daily smoothie full of antioxidants, fruits, and berries is key.  Add greens such as kale, spinach, spirulina, and wheat grass; superfruits such as acai, goji berry, and maqui berry; mushrooms such as chaga, reishi, and lion’s mane.  Include ginseng and maca for some natural energy, stamina, and productivity.

Other powerful supplements include ormus and shilajit, which regenerate your cells and assist bodily processes such as healing and detox.  Collagen and healthy fats are the key to healthy bones, skin, and optimal cholesterol levels.  Sprinkle your foods with ground flax seeds, hemp hearts, and whole pine nuts to add healthy fats and extra minerals to your diet, not to mention enhanced texture.

We recommend that you continue to do your own research on supplements, as new clinical studies are being published all the time.  We live in an age of information, and there are always new things to discover when it comes to turning back the clock.

Healthy eating, detoxifying your body, and an active lifestyle are certainly pillars to a long and healthy life.  Another very important aspect to consider is a healthy mindset.  Happiness and fulfillment may actually be the most important aspects of staying young, vibrant, and beautiful.  There is no shortage of studies on the various ways this prolongs your lifespan.

Did you know that being sad or angry while you eat can negatively affect even the healthiest of foods?  Not to mention all of the harmful chemicals and hormones your body releases as a result.  It takes an average of five days for your body to fully recover from just five minutes of negative emotion!

Wallowing in low vibrations, the power of the negative mind can lower the effectiveness of even the healthiest of supplements.  On the other hand, while feeling happy and loving, our bodies are able to transmute even the occasional harmful foods since our immune system and digestion strengthens.

Within seconds of sharing a hug, over 1,400 helpful substances and hormones can be measured in the blood.  One of which is DHEA, from which our bodies make both testosterone and estrogen, depending on your gender, both of which are key markers used by scientists when measuring biological age.

Also, happy people literally look younger!  Many individuals turn to plastic surgery to try and cover the effects of aging, yet if they continue to feel sad and resentful on the inside, their eyes will show the truth, often an even older age than they actually are.  A happy, fulfilled individual, who is connected with their body, lives a healthy, balanced lifestyle, and uses natural, organic cosmetics will generally look far younger than a person who has undergone multiple painful surgeries to lift and stretch parts of their faces.

To achieve lasting peace and happiness, begin studying meditation and the power of the mind.  Spend some time simply being, and not always doing.  Realize that you did not come to this Earth to struggle, suffer, and live in a state of lack and limitation.  Rather, you learned those states.

Take time out of each day to simply appreciate life, feel gratitude and compassion, and take a few breaths in and out through your heart once in a while, not only through your nose.  Tools such as these not only raise your overall level of well-being, but they can also be extremely useful in shifting your state when you find yourself feeling stress or emotions you know aren’t good for you.

We now know that depression is almost always caused by the underlying knowledge that we are somehow settling for less than we deserve, and less than we are capable of.  We are fortunate to find ourselves today in a world where it is easier than ever to discover powerful information.  If you feel as if you do not have enough fulfillment and happiness in your life, start doing some research into your own potential.  You may be surprised by what you find!
