Escapist Behavior

Part of the problem here is that men often have different symptoms when they are depressed compared to women. For instance, men are a lot more likely to show escapist behaviors, such as spending a lot more time than usual on sports, or at work.

These are the kinds of things that you will find helpful to watch out for, because it may well be that your man is suffering from depression. If you think your man has been showing this kind of behavior, it could well be a sign of depression.

Irritability

Another sign that men may show when they are depressed is irritability. If your man is not normally quick to become irritable, but now he is showing this a lot, then it could be that he is simply depressed, and that he needs some help.

Alcohol Or Drug Abuse

Again, if your man doesn’t generally use alcohol or drugs, and then starts to do so, that is probably quite a clear sign that he is not feeling his best. He may well be trying to mask certain emotions or manage his moods, for instance.

All in all, alcohol and drug abuse are pretty clear signs that someone is struggling. While you might also be keen to try and help him with the drug problem itself, you’ll probably find it helps to also look at the underlying problem, which is probably some kind of mental health problem.

Risky Behavior

It might also be that he is engaging in increasingly risky behavior. This can take many forms, and at its simplest it can be something like driving dangerously or more recklessly.
