Welcome back to The Code of Style, and this feature about How to Take Care of Your Skin in Winter.

Winter can be a wonderful time of year but it can also play havoc with your skin. With cold temperatures outside, we use a lot of dry heat inside. This dry heat can dry out your skin and make it feel unhealthy.

Fortunately, there are many ways you can adjust your beauty regime to suit winter weather. Take a look at these great tips for keeping your skin feeling soft and beautiful.

Switch Moisturizer

Your regular moisturizer may not be strong enough to handle winter skin. You can either add moisture to your cream by adding a few drops of oil and mixing well or choosing a different moisturizer. Look for moisturizer with oil or water bases.

Before applying your moisturizer in the morning or your night cream in the evening, splash your face with some water and leave it slightly wet. This will help to lock in moisture to your skin.

Use a humidifier

Putting a humidifier in your bedroom can do wonders for your skin. It will add moisture into the air in your room as you sleep so you don’t have to do anything except flick a switch before you go to bed.

In addition to helping with conditions like asthma or helping you breathe when you have a cold, it will also replace any moisture lost in your skin during the day.

Use SPF

Some people think that SPF isn’t necessary during the winter but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The heat from the sun can be just as hot when you’re standing in the snow as it is when you’re sunbathing on the beach. SPF will provide your skin with protection while keeping your skin moisturized.

You can find SPF in many moisturizers or anti-aging creams. You can even find makeup products like foundations and primers with SPF too.

Don’t Over Exfoliate

When you have dry skin, it can be tempting to over exfoliate in an attempt to free your skin of it. The result is often the exact opposite. If you’ve been over-exfoliating, you may find that your skin turns flaky or blotchy in places.

This is a good sign to exfoliate less and moisturize more. Drinking more water throughout the day will also benefit your skin when it’s dry and flaky. If you don’t like plain water, add some fruit to it or put plenty of water into a daily smoothie.

Make some Lifestyle Changes

In addition to beauty regime adjustments, there are also many lifestyle changes that can help your skin. For example, cutting out alcohol, caffeine, and smoking can dramatically improve your skin. Click here for tips on how to detox.

It’s also important to eat a balanced diet and exercise when you can. The more vitamins and nutrients in your body, the more chance your skin has of remaining healthy and healing when it needs to. Exercise can reduce stress which can contribute to skin problems in any season.
