Welcome back to The Code of Style, and this feature about How To Eat Healthy & Look After Yourself

A healthy diet for most people consists of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats. These are the most important dietary components that have been shown to have various health benefits including lowering cholesterol levels and decreasing the risk of heart disease.

Eat Healthy & Look After Yourself

In general a good diet is one that includes a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins in moderate amounts. It should also include plenty of fresh water and essential nutrients which can be found by including yogurt in your diet or by taking a daily multivitamin or mineral supplement.

Eat your vegetables in new creative ways whenever you can, For example, try vegetable egg rolls, which gives you all the nutrients from vegetables as well as eggs. You should try to squeeze in as many nutrients as possible in a meal whenever you can

But is that all there is to it? And why do we need to do this? Let’s take a look at this topic.

Why Is It Important to Eat Healthy and Get Fit?

Healthy eating and getting fit are important habits that everyone should have. But some people may not know why it is so important to do so. When really, it’s something that contributes to having better levels of health all around. If you know that you want to feel better in yourself, then you have to make this a priority. But it’s also important to do it in a way that works well for you.

Following a healthy diet has many health benefits, helping to reduce the risk of many serious diseases such as:

  • Heart disease: Too many red meats and saturated fats may lead to heart disease. Incorporating more healthy foods into your diet such as leafy greens, fatty fish and whole grains could protect your heart.
  • Diabetes: A diet in sugary foods and refined carbs may increase your risk of developing diabetes. Eating healthy can prevent this. As Dr. John Heary recommends, a specially engineered low carb diet could even potentially reverse type 2 diabetes.
  • Cancer: Many unhealthy foods have been linked to a higher risk of cancer. This includes red meats, processed foods and alcoholic drinks. Reducing these foods could help fend off cancer.

A healthy diet also contributes to better gut health, improved memory, improved mood, stronger bones, better sleep and helps with weight loss. So it’s not just about how you look. By eating healthily and looking after yourself, you could actually allow yourself to live a healthier life all around and live longer.

How To Enjoy A Balanced Diet But Eat Well

Balanced diet is not all about counting points and keeping the calorie intake to a fixed figure. If you want to enjoy your food without feeling deprived, you should learn how to eat real food in moderation.

This is where the 80/20 rule comes in. 80% of the time, eat well and fuel your body with what it needs. Then 20% of the time, look to enjoy your favourite foods. It can be as simple as having a healthy salad for dinner then trying out an easy pumpkin dump cake recipe for dessert.

Most of the time, you’re going to find that balance is best. It’s the most sustainable way to achieve your goals too.

Top Tips for Eating Healthy and Getting in Shape

It can be difficult to find time to eat healthy and exercise throughout the day. But you have to make it both a priority and a habit. Some of the ways that you can do this is by being proactive.

First of all, if you want to eat healthy, plan your meals in advance. Make a list of what you plan to eat or even meal prep. Be sure that you do the grocery shopping for those meals then you’ll only have those meals available.

Snacking is important to prevent weight gain, but not all snacks are created equal. Choose ones that don’t have a lot of sugar or fat while still being nutrient-dense like fruits or nuts. Also make sure that you get into a routine. If you have a routine of meal times and when you eat, it’s easier to stay in shape.

Plan your treats and be sure to focus on your goals overall. The more you focus on balance and be kinder to yourself, the easier this should feel for you.

You do also need to make sure that you’re eating enough protein to help you build muscle too. And, you also have to make sure you drink enough water – staying hydrated can make such a difference to your health overall.
