Welcome back to the Code of Style and this article about handmade, organic food from House of Godard, and in particular the many health benefits of their organic turmeric balls.
Before Rēine Godard started her own organic food company in 2020, she was struggling with chronic sciatica pain. Splitting her time between working on her businesses and raising her young daughter, Rēine was always on the move—and she needed to find a way to manage the pain.
She tried all the traditional avenues, including a chiropracteur, and when none of these offered a solution she decided to go ahead and find one for herself! Her solution became the original Turmeric Balls, made using only raw honey and organic turmeric powder.
After just three weeks, Rēine saw an improvement in her condition and that was the start of ‘House of Godard’.
Once Rēine perfected her recipe, she decided to make it available on her website, whilst maintaining the handmade with love aspect of her products. Every batch of organic turmeric balls is handmade by Rēine, herself, and delivered to your door!
Rēine has done more than refine an old tradition. With over 20 years experience as a Professional Chef and guided by an international palate, she fuses unique techniques from around the world to create the most interesting flavors and textures. She makes everything in small batches from her home base in Wyoming and her mission is to achieve optimal flavor, making every product worth your patience.
House of Godard stocks a wide-range of handmade, organic food, including turmeric balls, mountain wildflower raw honey, pineapple bites (plain and chili lime) and artichoke tea leaves to name just a few!
Organic Turmeric Balls
The House of Godard organic turmeric balls are made fresh daily, using a proprietary technique lovingly developed by Rēine at House of Godard. They keep the process all natural without compromising taste – so that their turmeric balls become delicious additions to your daily health regimen!
Turmeric contains chemical compounds known as curcuminoids. The most important of these is called curcumin, which is actually the main active ingredient in turmeric. It provides several strong anti-inflammatory effects, and it is also a reliable antioxidant.
However, the curcumin content in turmeric isn’t high, so to get the maximum benefits from it you will need to take it as a supplement. This way, you can access a content of curcumin that is high enough to function and give you its full health benefits.
You can also increase the benefits by consuming black pepper with turmeric, and/or taking a turmeric supplement that incorporates black pepper, as there is a substance called “piperine” in black pepper that helps your body to absorb curcumin into the blood stream. In fact, piperine improves your absorption of curcumin by about 2,000 percent.
Turmeric is known to have many health benefits
Here are my top 5 benefits in more detail.
Turmeric Improves Anti-Inflammatory Functions
One of turmeric’s main benefits is that it is a natural anti-inflammatory. In fact, curcumin is such a strong anti-inflammatory agent that it has been shown to match the effects of some specific anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Ibuprofen and Advil. The fact that it doesn’t have any of their side effects makes it a much better, natural source for the body.
Although, acute (short term) inflammation is a necessary process in the body, as it fights off infection from bacteria and viruses, chronic (long term) inflammation has been implicated in many conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, coeliac disease, glomerulonephritis, and hepatitis.
Turmeric is a Strong Antioxidant
Many believe oxidative damage from free radicals to be one of the mechanisms behind several illnesses and ageing-related ailments. Too much exposure to free radicals can mess with the fats, proteins, and even the DNA in your body, which may lead to a number of common diseases and health conditions, including cancer, arthritis, heart disease, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Turmeric is a strong antioxidant that can help to counteract the effects of these free radicals. Its chemical structure, as well as an ability to boost the body’s antioxidant enzymes, are potent tools that will go a long way in bolstering your health
Turmeric is able to deliver a critical one-two punch against free radicals. It blocks them, then boosts the body’s in-built ability to do so.
Curcumin is Linked to Improved Brain Health and Functionality
Decades back, many believed that the brain’s neurons weren’t able to multiply and divide once a person reaches maturity. However, we now know that this isn’t the case. Neurons can form new connections and in some areas of the brain, they can even multiply and boost their numbers.
One of the primary drivers of this boosting and multiplication ability is the neurotropic factor. This is a form of growth hormone that works particularly in the brain. Some of the common brain disorders – including but not limited to Alzheimer’s disease – have been linked to low levels of this hormone, and this is where curcumin comes in, as it can increase the level of brain-derived neurotropic factor, thus playing an effective role in delaying many brain diseases.
It also works to reduce inflammation as well as the build-up of protein plaques in the brain that are characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease sufferers.
Given the increased levels of the brain-derived neurotropic factor, curcumin is also linked with improved memory retention and optimized brain performance. However, there is still a need to perform more conclusive studies on this hypothesis.
Curcumin Can Help Reduce the Onset of Heart Disease
Currently, heart disease is thought to be the leading cause of death in the world, and researchers have dedicated decades to this disease and studying why it happens.
Interestingly, curcumin has demonstrated an ability to reverse several steps that lead to heart disease. Studies have shown that curcumin may improve endothelial function, (the endothelium is the lining of your body’s blood vessels). This membrane plays a key role in regulating blood pressure, and a dysfunction in the endothelium is associated with ageing and an increased risk of heart disease.
Thus, curcumin may help protect against age-related loss of function and reduce your likelihood of developing heart disease through its ability to optimize the endothelium. In addition, it’s also worth noting that curcumin can reduce issues like oxidation and inflammation, and given that these two problems have been linked with heart disease, its ability to get them on the lower side is undoubtedly an asset.
Turmeric Can Help to Prevent Cancer
Numerous animal studies have explored turmeric’s influence on cancer, and many have found that it can affect cancer formation, growth and development at a molecular level.
Turmeric can also contribute to the death of cancer cells and a reduction in angiogenesis (the formation of blood vessels delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cancer cells). It affects metastasis (the spread of cancer) as well. Research in mice suggests that curcumin may help slow the spread of tumor cells and may even prevent tumors from forming in the first place, by disrupting the formation of cancerous cells at various stages in the cell cycle, interfering with cell signaling pathways, and even causing cancerous cells to die.
However, research is still ongoing to determine the effects of turmeric to treat cancer in humans.
Turmeric and curcumin may also be able to counteract the effects of some carcinogens, such as certain additives used in processed food
All in all, turmeric is a reliable supplement that has a wide array of benefits. Thanks in no small part to its composition of curcumin, the supplement goes a long way in bolstering your health and can help to treat several ailments. From preventing heart disease to retarding the progress of Alzheimer’s disease and a host of other ailments, turmeric has undoubted benefits. The potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties will also go a long way in alleviating the symptoms of arthritis and depression. You can consume turmeric in several ways, whether you prefer to ingest it naturally or in drug supplements.
