Welcome back to the Code of Style and this article on How to Improve Your Smile With These Simple Tips.

A smile can brighten a room, and it’s usually one of the first things people notice about you. That’s why it’s important to look after your smile, and with these top tips, you will be well on your way to a healthier, brighter smile.

To floss or not to floss?

Removing any food between your teeth prevents plaque building up, as bacteria are attracted to food particles. Severe plaque can lead to gum disease. For this reason, it is important to use an interdental brush as part of your daily oral healthcare routine.

Flossing is an effective alternative to using an interdental brush if the spaces between your teeth are not wide enough. If you have not used either before, your gums may be sensitive, and they could bleed. This should pass after a few days.

Brushing between the teeth or flossing will not only improve your oral hygiene but will make your smile appear brighter.

If you want straighter teeth but are unsure whether to get braces as an adult because of how they look, clear aligners could be an option for you. If you have already decided on getting clear aligners, the next step is to choose between clear correct vs invisalign. Both are invisible aligners moulded to your mouth that correct bad bites, overcrowding or crooked teeth. There are a few minor differences between the two, so a consultation will confirm what works best for your smile.

It is recommended to wear the aligners for 22 hours a day for best results, removing and cleaning them during mealtimes.

Limit drinks that can stain.

Coffee, tea, and red wine are known to cause superficial stains on the teeth, while sugary drinks can cause tooth decay. Drinking through a straw can help as it directs the liquid away from your teeth. It is also a good idea to drink water after drinking other beverages to wash any remaining liquids that may sit on your teeth and cause stains. Although superficial stains can be polished off by your dentist or hygienist, drinking these liquids in excess can lead to internal staining of the tooth enamel.

Limiting your daily intake of these liquids will promote whiter teeth. That’s not to say you have to cut them out completely, a lot of us enjoy a good cup of coffee after all!

If you have engrained stains, you may also want to consider a teeth whitening program.

Keep hydrated on H2O.

One sure way to promote healthy teeth and a brighter smile is to drink plenty of water. Tap water is often a better choice than bottled water, as it has the right amount of fluoride in it to promote tooth health and discourage decay. Unlike sugary or acidic drinks, water helps flush the teeth clean and does not increase decay rates.

Form a dental routine.

It’s a given that brushing your teeth twice a day will improve the health and whiteness of your teeth, so setting time aside each day to maintain your smile is key.
