We are now well into the cold, autumn days and rapidly approaching winter, and it’s time to switch up our footwear for some boots. But what are the 2020 boot trends, and what are the best ways to style them?
I love all shoes, but boots and booties are my favorites, and you are definitely going to want to make space in your closet to incorporate some of this years offers! Boots and booties are also a great investment as many of them don’t differ dramatically from year to year, such as a basic black Chelsea boot, which makes an appearance every season. However, the 2020 boot trends also give us the chance to have a bit of fun and experiment with something new.
As well as the classic favorites from previous years, there are a few new twists; such as metallics, pops of color, waterproof booties, chunky soles, revamped cowboy boots and more!

2020 Boot Trends
The Classic Chelsea Boot
A classic Chelsea Boot never goes out of fashion, and 2020 is no exception! Chelsea boots are versatile, comfortable, and fashionable. Whether you’re rocking a casual weekend look or dressing up for a semi-formal function, these boots are an excellent choice. And why not give your Chelsea Boots a 2020 twist by adding a chunky sole?
You can wear them with jeans, pants, skirts or dresses, they basically go with everything. However, if you wear them with jeans, make sure the jeans are short or cropped and end just above the boot (and don’t tuck your jeans in!)
Waterproof Booties/ The Fashion Wellington
Many designers chose to pair their outfits with wellies or other weatherproof footwear, proving that practicality and fashion can go hand in hand. This is the perfect shoe for stomping through sludgy weather and outdoor walks, and the boots above will be sure to let you step out in style!
Chunky Soles
Chunky platform soles and track-sole boots are the perfect choice to offset more feminine pieces and were seen on the runways in classic neutrals, florals, metallics and in bold pops of color as well as in a variety of fabrics such as leather, suede, and rubber.
The revamped cowboy boot
Western cowboy style boots are a key piece in the 2020 boot trends; and have been spotted in a wide range of fabrics, prints and colors. Whether ankle or mid-calf length, and whether in suede, print or metallics, this style is sure to add some panache to any outfit.
Combat Boots
Ever since Dr Martens first hit the fashion radar, we see the return of combat boots each autumn. The 2020 boot trends update includes a chunkier, almost platform-like track sole, but if you prefer to stick to the traditional style, there are still plenty of the more “conventional” lace-up options around!
Neutrals
If you prefer a more classical and intemporel style, there are plenty of neutral styles around in the 2020 boot trends. The best part about neutral colors, such as black, grey, white and shades of brown, is that they go with pretty much anything and so are really versatile and easy to style.
Or you can combine two or three neutrals in just one boot!
Over the Knee Glam
Over the knee (OTK) glam boots were spotted on the runways at Bottega Veneta and Victoria Beckham. Over the knee boots always look amazing with jeans tucked in, but they also pair perfectly with mid calf length skirts and dresses, as well as minidresses and skirts. Make sure to have at least one pair in your closet this autumn!
Add some bling
Metallics and statement-making details are one of the season’s biggest trends and whether they’re gold, silver or sparkly you can’t go wrong with a statement boot to elevate your look!
